Mentored by First Ark Group
Deng is an economics student at Queen’s University in Kingston, UK. He has been an active volunteer and advocate for student, immigrant, and high-needs communities throughout his high school and postsecondary careers. With these experiences, he hopes to now connect civic duty with a business setting, and learn how revenue-based enterprises can balance profits and social good. The First Ark Group is a social enterprise based in Liverpool, UK that delivers affordable housing and venture funding services to the community. While Deng is with the company, he intends to better quantify the savings for government and society when affordable housing is provided and to compare it with international benchmarks. He will then research business models and financing solutions that can propel First Ark to more efficiently solve the complex social issues of our day.
